Summary: During five years, longitudinal research is conducted in
order to systematically examine citizen's opinion on relevant social,
political and economic issues and current processes. The research methods
used, are also thoroughly scrutinized and optimized according to specific
social situation in Croatia. It is expected that the results yielded by the
research would contribute to the quality of communication and decision
making at different levels, and would simultaneously advance methodology in
this specially delicate social research field.
Keywords: public opinion, attitudes, survey, social process, political process, current events
Research goals: The development of democratic processes increasingly
imposes need for scientifically founded surveys of citizen's opinions on
social, political and economic issues in order to provide objective and
valid indicators of public opinion and enable qualified decision making on
various social and political levels. Without a valid information on public
opinion, proper communication with public is scarcely possible and this
results in the lack of really democratic policy that is based upon
respecting people's opinion. Due to potentially very important role in
society, public opinion surveys are bearing huge social responsibility.
Therefore they must meet very strict professional and ethical criteria. The
public opinion survey results are usually presented to the wide specter of
recipients, and may influence social processes much more strongly than
other social researches. In the line with what is said, the main objectives
of the project are as follows: 1. Provide valid indicators of public
opinion on relevant social issues and processes and enable longitudinal
follow up studies of public opinion trends and developments 2. Test and
improve relevant methodological components of public opinion survey
respecting specific social and political background. The results should
contribute to the quality of communicating and decision making on various
social and political levels, and simultaneously advance methodology used.
Also one of the main objectives is to establish adequate professional
standards in the level with the world's leading agencies in the field, but
always keeping in mind specific social and political background. Other information about the project.
