Summary: The objective of this research is to investigate the
effects of educational integration of 26 pupils with impaired vision
integrated into regular primary schools in Zagreb and Rijeka. The
efficiency of their integration was estimated on the basis of their school
success, on the basis of the acceptance by their teachers and fellow pupils
with no developmental difficulties (N=365). The attitudes of the parents of
pupils with and without impaired vision, who attend regular schools, are
taken as an indicator of the successfulness of the integration. Further
indicators are the level of their socialization and the level of neurotism
in relation with the acceptance by the pupils without sight impairment who
attend regular schools. The general hypothesis that has represented the
starting point in this research is that the integration of visually
impaired pupils is not yet very successful. According to knowledges we have
so far come to through realization of the project it seems that this
hypothesis will be confirmed.
Keywords: The effects of educational integration, children with impaired vision, the efficiency of educational integration
Research goals: It is expected that the results of the research will
show that educational integration of visually impaired children when
considered in whole is not very successful. Also it will probably confirm
the fact that there are certain difficulties present in the sphere of the
acceptance by their fellow pupils without visual impairments. It is also
expected that teachers in regular schools haven't got completely positive
relationship towards visually impaired pupils as well as the parents of
pupils with no visual impairments. That's why it is going to be necessary
to apply some interventions for transformation of attitudes' and relations'
towards educational integration both with teachers and pupils in regular
schools, and also with parents of children with and without sight
impairments. The research should further on suggest basic elements for
creating programs of work on changing relations and attitudes of all
mentioned groups relevant for more successful educational integration of
visually impaired pupils. Other information about the project.
