Summary: "Tourism in the Development Macrostrategy of Croatia" is a complex interdisciplinary research effort which aims at formulating a new macro strategy of tourism development in the Republic. It is composed of five closely linked thematic segments. The analysis of the strategies of tourism development is based on the experiences in foreign countries and their possible application in Croatia. The analysis of managing natural resources and the country's cultural inheritance explores the optimal means of exploiting these public goods as the basis of tourism development. The role of tourism generated expenditure in total expenditure and the balance of accounts is evaluated, while the research synthesis offers a review of principles and mechanisms on which the tourism development strategy of Croatia is based.

Research goals: The change of the economic system necessarily forms the new standards according to which the economic units should conduct. So, the development strategy of Croatia's tourism should be made on the new presumptions. While working on the strategy, the cognition and experiences of highly developed countries should be deliberately used to supplement the cognition and experiences that we already have. Therefore, the aim of this Project is to reach the knowledge necessary for creating the new macroeconomic strategy of Croatia's tourist development. The main research topics are: - the possibility of using the experiences of the countries which are developing their tourism in the conditions of marketeconomy; - the management of tourism's natural and cultural resources; - the macroeconomic strategy of market and - the system for observing the tourist expenditure and it's significance for the reproduction process. The results of this research are going to be used for elaborating the principles which form the base for the development policy in the domain of: - prices, - taxes and - financing the development.
