Summary: The project "Croats in European countries and contemporary
migration" consists of eight themes. The first theme deals with Croatian
migrant perspective in Europe in regard to changes which reflect upon
Croatia, while the second one is concerned with demographical-statistical
problems connected with population census and the attempt to establish
actual indicators of Croats out of their homeland in European countries.
The third topic presents the study of economic policies of EC, EFTA and
the Republic of Croatia in regard to investments in Croatia and
investments of Croatian migrants from European countries in Croatia, while
the fourth one gives a comparative analysis of migration policies of
Austria and Germany which can be used in the implementation of migration
policy of the Republic of Croatia. The fifth theme is concerned with the
transformation of temporary migration into permanent one as well as with
the process and causes of naturalization and the sixth one with the
language, culture and making of national classes. The seventh one deals
with the situation of the second and third generation of migrants and in
the final, eighth topic, interactions and conflicts between domestic and
foreign cultures are studied.

Research goals: The main aims of the research were: 1. An attempt at
examination of the socio-historical synthesis of migration processes in
Europe; 2. Presentation of a reviewed survey of the structure and dynamic
change in the contingent of Croatian citizens working/residing in European
countries in the years 1971, 1981 and 1991; 3. The establishment of
advantages and defaults of the economic policies of EC, EFTA and the
Republic of Croatia in the field of financial investments in Croatia; 4.
Presentation of the effects of (mainly) the German migration policies and
changes occuring in this policy; 5. Identification of the main factors
which turn temporary migration into permanent one; 6. An attempt to
synthetize the cognitions on the mother tongue of the children of Croatian
migrants; 7. Establishing the conditions and possibilities of continuing
the education, employment and the orientation towards the return of Croats
to their country; 8. An attempt to define positive interactions and
