Summary: The aim of the research on "Contemporary practical thought"
consists in updating diverse kinds of knowledge and forms of man's
activities which are based on this knowledge in contemporary world. The
research should contribute to the differentiation of specific spheres and
ways of life in the world of modern technology. It should also contribute
to forming a deeper awareness of the losses which modern technological
production brings into the living world in general, especially with respect
to human ethical and political behaviour and activities. The rehabilitation
of practical philosophy in this country and abroad in the past 25 years has
restored classical practical philosophy, its history, concept and method,
and has demonstrated the specific quality of practical-philosophical
research and founding of human "practice". On the other hand, however,
central issues of contemporary historical living world, ranging from
ecologic and bio-medical to ethical, legal, political, philosophical and
historical problems, are still waiting to be explored, thematised and
understood in an appropriate practical-philosophical light. Therefore,
starting from the results obtained so far, we should carry on systematic
research within the framework of practical philosophy so that, by studying
conditions and ways of man's life in modern technological and historical
world, we could develop a special philosophical ethics, as well as a
philosophy of politics, law and history, constituting a comprehensive
practical philosophy which brings the awareness of contemporary human
existence as final historical existence and makes it meaningful. In order
to achieve this we should complement the classical corpus of practical
philosophy within the framework of ethics by contemporary studies of
special ethics, such as political, legal, social, ecological and medical
ethics, as well as the ethics of scientific research itself. Similar
special research should be carried out in other disciplines of practical
philosophy. Whitin the philosophy of politics research should be extended
to include contemporary philosophy of the state, the theory of democracy,
political anthropology, political theology and the theory of political
institutions. Within the philosophy of law research should be completed by
classical natural law, modern positivism of law, the hermeneutics and the
phenomenology of law and the theory of justice. Within the framework of the
philosophy of history we should study its prehistory in the theology of the
history of salvation and its dissolution in the historicist period, the
founding of historical sciences and the "critique of historical reason",
starting from Dilthey and Husserl. We should also study contemporary theory
of historicity as philosophy of historical knowledge which is appropriate
to this age as specific practical knowledge. This shows the affiliation of
the philosophy of history to practical philosophy in its original sense,
representing at the same time its crown and purpose. In addition to
traditional methods of research, phenomenological and hermeneutic methods
inherent in the humanities will be used in the first place.
