Summary: The project "Visual art phenomena in Croatia from 1850-1950" encompasses previous elaboration of documentation, fundamental research, (re)interpretation and (re)evaluation of: visual phenomena, stylistic-morphologic caracteristics and tendencies, development of art institutions, associations and manifestations, particular techniques and disciplines, particular artists and key personages of the artistic life in Zageb cultural milieau, as well as, the rest of artistic centres in the period between 1850 and 1950. The reflexions of that "ground period" on the later contemporary movements are followed on the level of documentary information and critical valuation. Marked is the intention to establish the criteria and estimation of this specific milieu, but also its enclosure in the European trends. Monographs have been prepared for S. Šohaj, E. Kokot, M. Makanec, V. Varlaj, V. Gecan, T. Petrić, A. Krizmanić, J. Seissl. There have been made synthetic studies of XIX century painting, XIX and XX century sculpture, development of the Museums in Zagreb, realistic tendencies in croatina painting of 20-es, development of the art scene (painting) in Osijek, scenography in Zagreb, oleography in Croatia, sacral painting in Zagreb archbishopry area. Beside the monographs and syntheses, chronological studies, bio -bibliographic elaboration, critical reinterpretations of the chronological and spatial visual arts boundaries that shall appear as the result of this project, we shall include all the scientific information into the databse (Visual arts phenomena and events in Croatia of the 19th and 20th century).

Keywords: visual arts, Fine Arts - 19th and 20th century, Croatia, artistic centers, Zagreb, painting, sculpture, graphic, arts and crafts, design, artists, art associations, artistic groups, museums, galleries, exhibitions, chronology, bio-bibliography, styles and tendencies, art criticsm, themes and genres,

Research goals: Preliminary research and documentary elaboration (commonly directed into the MA thesis or PhD thesis or monographs) should be processed through the database so that the already existing and the new substances might be scientifically reinterpreted with the scope to establishe synthesized surveys. The level of the elaboration itself and inadequatly founded scientific comprehension imposed some priorities on the level of the exactness of data collecting and precise factography interpretation. In some way according to their lasting of the project tasks are primarily oriented to the "Visuala art - the Zagreb circle" and pursuit throughout one whole century. As the national cultural center Zagreb represents civilisation model displaying its experience of the stylistical and morphological transformation together with the "oscilations in taste". Phenomena and events in the other artistic centres shall be simultaneosly surveyed and completed. Special ambition of this research is to establish the criteria and estimation which reveal, either the specific notions, or gradual incorporation into the universal European courses, with parallelisms and various alternations as their consequences. Horizonatally and vertically connected different phenomena enclosed in the ampler socio-cultural milieau are expected to offer - in a range of separate, or compact studies and monographs, exhibitions and thematic retrospectives - a defined picture of this so very important, particulary in the sense of its "modern" grounding, epoche of the Croatian art.
