Summary: The research of the Croatian language history is in its
nature a longlasting project. It consists of 1. the research of all
language levels (graphic and orthographic, phonological, morphological,
syntactic, lexical and stylistic) of texts of Croatian literacy in the
widest sense, from the first written monuments till the end of the 19th
century in order to determine develepment tendencies in particular dialects
and in the formation of the Croatian Literary Language, 2. the compilation
of a historical grammar of the Croatian Literary Language, 3. critical
editons of all old texts in all three scripts (Latin, Glagolitic, Cyrillic
- Bosančica), 4. the research of the history of language studies, i.e.
analysis of the known as well as unknown published and manuscript
dictionaries, grammars, orthographic manuals and schoolbooks in order to
determine the place of the Croatian philology in the European context and
its meaning in the formation of the Croatian language conscience and by
this the Croatian national being, 5. the research of etymology and semantic
descrption of certain lexemes and lexicological classes in order to get an
integral description of the Croatian Literary Language and a deeper
understanding of its functioning.

Research goals: The aim of the research of the Croatian history is
the scientific analysis of the Croatian language heritage throughout the
centuries, from the first written documents to the end of the 19th century
as well as etymological research of certain lexemes and lexicological
classes. By the scientific analysis of the language of certain language
monuments, writers and periods, a detailed description of all language
levels on the syncronic plane for each monument or period is made. It is an
unavoidable condition for the description of the language on its dyacronic
plane, i.e. for the compilation of a historical grammar of the Croatian
language. The research of the historical development of Croatian philology
and historical and culturological conditions in which it has developed
gives an integral insight into the position of the Croatian language in the
past and the development of the Croatian Literary Language. It is a
foundation for the compilation of the historical grammar of the Croatian
language. The aim of etymological research of certain lexicological classes
and isolated lexems is to advance the description and explanation of the
origin of the whole lexical fund of the Croatian language. Other information about the project.
