Summary: The phonological system of the Croatian Church Slavonic,
the language of Croato-Glagolitic missals, the genitive/accusative
syncretism and the categories of gender and animacy, the lexicon of
Croato-Glagolitic psalter and the syntax of subordinate clauses have been
analysed. The newly discovered fragments of Croato-Glagolitic breviaries
of the 14th and 15th centuries have been described. The results have been
published in two books, a master's thesis and seven papers. Two monographs
and seven papers have been submitted for publication.
Keywords: Croatian Church Slavonic, Croatoglagolitic codices, missal, breviary, psalter, phonology, morphology, lexicon, sentence syntax, morphosyntax, conjunctions, grammatical categories, accusative, genitive, syncretism, gender, animateness, Passion according to Matthew, Pašman fragments, Samobor fragment
Research goals: The goal of the research is an integral description
of the system of the Croatian Church Slavonic and the compilation of a
grammar or monographs on individual levels of that system as well as
monographs, studies or papers on the language of certain Croato-Glagolitic
codices and texts or certain linguistic problems. The aim is also to
determine various subsystems within Croatian Church Slavonic and
differences between certain texts, codices, and groups of codices (northern
and southern group). The results will enrich the knowledge of Croatian
Church Slavonic and enable a new perspective of the language of
Croato-Glagolitic codices. Some results will be very useful for the
compilation of the dictionary of the Croatian Church Slavonic which is
being written in the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb. The results
of the research are of interest to Paleoslavists, Croatists, Slavists as
well as other linguists for the situation in Croatian Church Slavonic is
compared to that in (cannonical) Old Church Slavonic, in contemporary
Croatian and its dialects as well as in other Slavic languages. Other information about the project.
