Summary: The collection of papers Tropes and Figures analyses those aspects of figurative expression which have so far been neglected by scholars, i. e., it analyses some tropes and figures that have been, until now, rarely dealt with. It also deals with the following questions connected with the theory of figures, which are nowadays at the centre of neorethoric: yhe question of the nature of relationships which are the basis of figures; the analysis of the concepts of deviation and the zero rhetorical degree; the reconsideration of the theory of supstitution and interaction; the research of the figure's aesthetic or cognitive effect; the description, clasification and explanation of figures.

Research goals: The aim of the project is the publishing of a collection of original scholarly articles, Tropes and Figures, which will render the theory of figures its former scope, thus adequately presenting Croatian literary scholarship to European scholarly circles. The participation of foreign experts should guarantee a new dialogue between Croatian and foreign scholars.
