Summary: Crime investigation and prevention (criminalistic) terminology in Croatian language has not been standardized so far, which often makes communication in that field difficult. The first stage of the corpus compiling was choosing relevant and representative sources and literature. Over a thousand pages of the text has been entered into a computer. An abc-list for the first eight hundred pages has been prepared and the researchers underlined the terms they consider to be criminalistic. The coputer corpus was supplemented by excerpting terms from the professional literature used in teaching these subjects. In the second stage of the research, beside the abc-list of terms, the frequency of the terms in corpus would be determined. That would enable compiling a list of terms which would be used to make analysis of terms regarding their use and their relationship with other words and terms in the corpus. The third stage, which would be defining of the terms and determining their content and range would enable compliling of a terminology dictionary (or glossary) or terminology data bank. During that stage the computer concordances of the corpus would be used, which would give authentic cotext to determine the content and the range of a term. In the final stage, the narrower and broader terms of a term could be determined and in that way the needs of terminology description would be adequately fulfilled.

Research goals: Objectives of this research are to compile a representative corpus of crime investigation and prevention (criminalistic) texts in Croatian language which could be used as a basis to define the content and range of the terms. This would enable the standardization of the terms, and in its final stage could be used to produce a dictionary (glossary) of Croatian criminalistic terminology or to prepare a terminology data bank. The objectives could be summarized as follows: 1. Establishing a stabilized terminology system in criminalistics; 2. Description (definition) of entries in a specialized dictionary (glossary) of criminalistics; 3. Finding out synonyms in the world languages (English, French and German).
