Held: from 10/01/92 to 10/03/92
Summary: Since the last decade of the 18th century four Split born
maestri di cappella were elected continuously during 28 years: Julije
Bajamonti, Ante Alberti, Ivan Jeličić and Augustin Galasso. The
professional maestro di cappella was remunerated for his work by natural
products and money, which was provided by the Archbishop, the Chapter, the
town and the Fraternity of the Holy Sacrament. These four Split musicians
had in common melodic inventiveness, the view of musical style and
function, but differed in the number of their compositional output. The
interest for their compositions declined at the end of the 19th century
with the rise of the Caecilian movement in Split.
