Summary: In the frames of the project "W.A. Mozart and Croatian
Musical Culture 1750-1820" the period of classicism/classics in Croatia is
researched. Also, the topic of the investigation is the place of the entire
Croatian musical culture in the context of the European entity. Under the
idea of European complex, in the first place are meant lands and cultural
spheres who are in direct contact with Croatia, i.e. Central-European
complex in north and north-west, and Mediterranean, mostly Italian, complex
in the coastal area. Of course, the closeness of the Ottoman empire is not
neglected. The other aspect under consideration in the research is as
follows: 1) activity of the "great master" - W.A. Mozart -, who is present
with his works in the majority of Croatian collections (according to recent
research); 2) parallel existence and activity of the lower part of the
"Mozart-pyramide" - activity of the "Kleinmeister". Not only composers and
their works, but also the whole infrastructure is encompassed in this
project, i.e.: musical institutions, performance, the activity of maecenas
and collectors, and also the relation to other arts.
Keywords: W.A. Mozart, musical culture, Croatia, period of classics/classicism, Central Europe, Mediterranean, "Kleinmeister", composers, musical institutions, performance, maecenas, collectors
Research goals: This project and its research are orientated
towards: 1) investigations of the history of musical culture of the defined
region (Croatia) and in a certain period (period of classics: 1750-1820).
Quite a large scale of music material is preserved in Croatia, but it is
not sufficiently explored; 2) defining of cultural circles in Croatia
arround centripetal centres (Zagreb, Varaždin, Split, Dubrovnik, etc.); 3)
defining of the place and role of the Croatian musical culture in the
frames between Central Europe and Mediterranean and their interactions; 4)
realization of the broader spectrum of musical repertory - registration of
music works, their analysis, elaboration and preparing for modern
performance; 5) writing a new synthesis - a survey of the history of
musical culture in the period of classics - a work which would be a part of
a more complex series of simmilar publications.
