Summary: None of the aspects of Dubrovnik construction of the 15th and 16th century which is announced by this project, was not methodically treated or scientificly explained until now. On the level of urban structure, made by road and block of houses network, consideration was given more to mediaeval stratum and changes made on it by interventions in the 17th and 18th century. Modifications from 15th and 16th century were not considered in detail as separate problem. It happened that way because most modifications were cancelled or covered by the following construction so they were discovered by archeological and archivalia research and restoration. Except a few most representative examples, about houses and palaces of the Gothic and renaissance period has been a scarce amount of litterature. Methodical research on large number entirely preserved buildings, which by their sole existence confirm spread of the construction of that period in particular parts of the city, which is overdue. Typological classification isn't re-establish yet, neither the possible origins or influences of other enviroments are identified. Particular spatial and formative solutions of the residential architecture, that reached the highest range of the 15th and 16th century, are not yet interpretated, or valorizated. Archivalia research for all themes and problems mentioned, have not been executed methodically. A documentation which already exists isn't classified on functional way, concerning the needs of scientific research, and this project too.

Keywords: Dubrovnik, urban structure, architecture, houses, palaces, typology, gothic, renaissance,

Research goals: Research goal of this project is restitution of the construction of the 15th and 16th century, that indicates stratum which is the least present today, and which represents s quality pinacle in shaping the city public spaces, as well as, privat residential spaces. Besides, goal of the project is re-establishment of organic shift between mediaeval urban scheme of the 13th century (even earlier), and the baroque interventions in the 17th and 18th century, which have changed traditional spatial proportion and the city identity. Former presumptions will be exchanged by the arguments which repose, first of all, on the results of archeological research from about ten locations and who relate to particular buildings, afterwards on the archivalia analysis. The interpretation will depend on most recent comparative knowledge of the territory outside Dubrovnik. The research will be carried out through whole area inside the city walls on the level of constructed blocks, as well as, on particular buildings. By the re-establishment of reliable network of residential construction spread of the 15th and 16th century specific "zonal system" will be establish, considering architectonical types which appear, their frequency, particularity and way of exploitation. The typological classification of residential architecture itself will set range of questions about starting points of particular types, either the point in question is continuity of particular building structure from earlier period or their spreading in specific area.
