Summary: This project will identify basic parametres of the research of music phenomena in which are reflected phases of development of musical culture of a part of a nation dependent of their autochtonous geographical, psychological, culturological and sociological characteristics. The project identifies essential characteristics of musical changes in both the whole of south Croatia as well as in particular areas within it. Various aspects of musical culture in south Croatia will be theoretically and practically analized through team work; theoretical dealing of the changes of paradigms and corresponding changes of various segments of music and music making, social reality, music evaluation, then the changes in the area.

Research goals: the aim of the research is to give critical judgment of theprevious segmental research on the basic of longitudinal methodin South Croatia, to establish musical contents andsocio-historical problems of musical culture in the light ofdinamical defining of tradition. Concrete tasks of the researchresult from this way defined aim: - to establish musical culture in all the forms of its existancein, especially formal and subject - matter changesin the last decade and in the first years of post - socialismdevelopment in Croatia, - to establish changes in the musical world of all the SouthCroatia population and not only in the musical world - socially,geographically or by some other standards defined individuals,strata and groups. Expected scientific contribution of thisresearch is historical and ethnomusicological evoluation of up tothe present research works. Such attitude should overcome someworks from this field which remained on the level of journalismand historical facts. Except the mentioned theoreticalcontribution, or better to say ethnomusicological, this projecthas broader social importance. Social contribution of thisresearch is disclosed in revealing the most relevant factors inthe development of musical culture in all microregions of SouthCroatia.
