Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the key concept of
Super's career development theory, i.e. vocational maturity. Vocational
maturity is defined as a multidimensional construct comprising cognitive,
conative and affective components. The relationship of vocational maturity
to other relevant psychosocial variables such as: age, sex, SES,
intelligence, achievement motivation, academic achievement, test-anxiety,
work values, self-esteem, self-competence and vocational interests and
planning was also examined. The research design is a combination of
transversal and longitudinal approach. The subjects were students from 10
primary schools in Zagreb whose vocational development was followed from
the age of 10 to 15. The initial reserach design was somewhat changed
because of the unpredictable changes in research conditions mainly due to
the disruption of regular educational practises during the war. So the data
gathering was completed by the end of the first year of students' attending
high school. On the other hand a new subsample was included i.e.
students-refugees. The methods of multivariate statistic analysis were used
in the data processing.
Research goals: The aim of the study was to examine the key concept
of Super theory of career development: career maturity. The research
examines relationship between this construct and some other psychosocial
and educational variables. The theoretical contribution will be the
crosscultural validation of the model and applicative contribution will
consist in the construction of new career maturity inventory which will
improve the quality of vocational guidance of adolescents. Other information about the project.
