Summary: The project 'Self-concept, emotionality and the realization
of human potentials' investigated the relationship between the
cognitive self-interpretation system (self-concept, self-esteem,
self-consciousness, perception of personal competence, locus of control,
attributional style) and human emotions. The starting assumption was
that these two sub-systems have been developed simultaneously during the
person's life. In the specific constellation of their links they
determine the quality of living, realization of one's resources, and the
actual behaviour in the real-life. Two basic aims were set: (1) to
explore the relationship between the sub-system of cognitive
self-interpretations and emotional functioning, and (2) to explore their
importance for the human adjustment (efficacy of behaviour, number and
the level of psychological problems, creativity, and the realization of
one's resources). The authors have published forty three articles in
various Croatian and foreign journals and books. The results of this
research contribute to the explanation of the above mentioned problems
on a theoretical level. A number of different self-assessment
measures for children and adults were developed. The results can be
applied in the education and counselling as a facilitator of
environmental conditions.
Keywords: self-concept, self-esteeem, self-consciousness, perception of competence, locus of control, attributions, sex-roles, emotions, depression, human potentials, creativity
Research goals: The aim of this project was to investigate the
relations between the system of cognitive interpretations and emotional
experiencing. These two sub-systems are supposed to be the key components
of the human psychological functioning, and are the basic factors of human
behaviour and general adjustment. They are manifested through efficacy of
behaviour, number and the level of psychological problems and creativity.
The results of the research showed that the human self-information
processing is closely related to emotional functioning. The self-concept
system sets the human adjustment and as such has a leading role in the
actualization of human potentials.
